Hugs for Heroes

Hugs for Heroes Award

The New England Chapter of the 101st Airborne Division is currently sponsoring Hugs for Heroes™ and is seeking support from other Airborne chapters for this worthy cause. Hugs for Heroes is a not-for-profit, 100% volunteer-run organization that helps our troops by sending care packages and letters of support to them.

Mireille Manzone, a teenager from Massachusetts and then a freshman at Boston College, started Hugs for Heroes in 2004 when she heard a speech by Lt. Col.  Scott Rutter (retired from U.S. Army), who described the hardships endured by members of the military and how mail day was often the loneliest day of the week. Mireille was inspired to help make a difference by showing them that their community appreciates their service and sacrifices. To date, Hugs for Heroes has shipped more than 11 tons of goods to our soldiers in Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine units located throughout Iraq and Afghanistan.

We ask you to join us in supporting this unique and meaningful effort.
